New business models, impact on society, professional training: how will the metaverse make new opportunities emerge?
In an interview published in The Innovator, ESSEC Business School Metalab executive director Benoit Bergeret talks about metaverse, augmented reality, interoperability of virtual worlds… and how these disruptive technologies may impact companies and industries in the future.
Beyond controversies and overrated expectations, he reminds us to accept that “for the moment [...] the metaverse is attracting mostly early adopters and it would be a mistake to read that as a sign of mass adoption”.
Yet, many industries will be deeply impacted by the metaverse and, more broadly, by the broad adoption of AI and machine learning. Think about how new tools such as prompt-based image generation AI services will disrupt content creation industries by boosting productivity of image generation; or how much any business who will leverage meetings in the metaverse to expand on their videoconferencing practices will save in time and energy / carbon footprint!
