BNP Paribas, a global leader in financial services, has entered into a research partnership with the ESSEC Business School Metalab Institute.. This collaboration is centered around exploring innovative ways to promote the acceptability and adoption of AI.. The partnership aims to deepen the understanding of AI deployment, from the perspective of model owners and end users.
The collaboration is built on a shared commitment to advancing AI technology, enhancing governance frameworks, and addressing the challenges of AI integration into business processes. Through this partnership, BNP Paribas seeks to leverage the academic expertise of the Metalab Institute to refine its AI deployment strategies, ultimately fostering a more efficient, robust, and trustworthy AI infrastructure.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the business and academic sectors, aiming to foster the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. By addressing key issues such as model robustness and governance, the partnership between BNP Paribas and the Metalab Institute will contribute to a deeper understanding of how AI can be effectively integrated into organizations. Additionally, the joint efforts will help shape the future of AI, ensuring its widespread adoption and acceptance in a manner that is both ethical and sustainable.
As for now, in parallel to the research projects conducted, the Metalab Institute team and BNPP collaborators take also advantage of the partnership in collaborating on major events, such as the AI Summer School hosted by BNPP in August 2024, during which a focus was brought on AI acceptability in front of the group's community of data scientists, as well as during the Cirm annual conference, one of the largest mathematics conference centers in the world.

In 2024, ESSEC Metalab Institute and Villa Numeris signed a strategic partnership aimed at promoting research and disseminating knowledge about artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors. This partnership is based on the complementary strengths of both entities and is structured around several key actions.
Firstly, a joint working group will be established to explore a subject to be identified, along with the creation of a scientific or strategic committee. This group will focus on drafting joint position papers to respond to public consultations such as the General States of Information and parliamentary hearings regarding generative AI.
Additionally, cycles of conferences and training sessions will be implemented. These initiatives will aim to address the challenges of AI across different sectors and disciplines while fostering a mixed approach between researchers and leaders.
An ambitious communication strategy and dissemination support will also be developed, leveraging the internal resources of both partners. This will include valuing each party’s contributions, potentially leading to cross-billing, as well as identifying complementary resources.
The partnership will focus on two key themes, organized as working groups. The first initiative will concentrate on the dissemination of AI in businesses, emphasizing "Leadership." The second initiative will explore how AI can become a "Soft Power" to promote our culture, values, and European languages on a global scale.
To this end, two working groups have been set in order to reflect on these themes - each working group being responsible for the production and dissemination of position papers and reports aiming at reflecting on these two major issues.
This partnership promises to generate significant mutual benefits, thereby enhancing the impact of both ESSEC Metalab Institute and Villa Numeris on the research and practice of artificial intelligence.

ESSEC Metalab Institute and Accenture have embarked on an exciting and innovative journey with the launch of "AI4RL" (Artificial Intelligence for Responsible Leadership), a program designed to deeply explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can redefine the role of leadership in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. As AI continues to reshape industries, the program seeks to uncover how responsible leadership can evolve in response, empowering leaders to address complex new challenges while fostering ethical and sustainable business practices.
AI4RL is the latest milestone in the decade-long partnership between ESSEC Business School and Accenture, building on the success of their Strategic Business Analytics Chair. Together, these two institutions are launching a broader alliance designed to explore AI’s potential for creating value while upholding ethical standards. At its core, AI4RL will examine the ways AI can reshape leadership, asking key questions such as:
The AI4RL program, starting September 2024, aims to answer these questions through comprehensive research and collaboration. It will investigate whether and how AI can reinforce responsible leadership, creating a cyclical process where leaders, equipped with AI, not only become more responsible but are also required to ensure AI is deployed responsibly.
The program will also study how AI-related risks—ethical, legal, and environmental—affect leadership and organizational practices. As part of this, the program will examine issues such as:
The program will take a broad, interdisciplinary approach to understanding leadership in the AI age. It will examine how institutions, technologies, organizational structures, and leadership styles all interact to shape the adoption of AI and its impacts on business practices. By investigating the full lifecycle of AI—its design, implementation, and use—AI4RL will provide a detailed look at how AI challenges or reinforces responsible leadership at every stage.
This research will be grounded in real-world case studies, spanning various industries and sectors. These case studies will enable researchers to measure the tangible impacts of AI on leadership and organizational behavior, providing practical insights for leaders who are designing, governing, or managing AI systems. Through these studies, AI4RL aims to illuminate how AI can amplify the mindsets, behaviors, and practices of leaders in a responsible and ethical direction.
AI4RL is not just an academic research project; it is a platform for engagement, bringing together a wide array of stakeholders to ensure that its findings have a broad and meaningful impact. The program will include:
Moreover, AI4RL is designed to be a collaborative platform, inviting companies to join as partners in the research. Through partnerships, businesses can actively participate in shaping the future of responsible AI leadership and contribute to the growing body of knowledge on how AI can be used to drive both organizational success and ethical standards.
